Road tests generally take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

All testing fees are non-refundable except where specifically stated below.

No refunds are provided when an applicant:

• Fails any portion of the Basic Control Skills Test or on-road test 
• Does not provide the required documents 
• Arrives with a vehicle that does not meet testing requirements 
• Experiences a mechanical or equipment issue involving an applicant-provided vehicle 
• Fails any portion of the test while using an A & M rental vehicle 
• Fails to appear for the scheduled appointment 

A full refund will be provided if the road test cannot be completed solely because of a verified mechanical or equipment failure involving a vehicle owned and provided by A & M Driver Testing, provided the issue was not caused or contributed to by the applicant.

A & M Driver Testing vehicles may be available for an additional $60 rental fee.

Vehicle-rental fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, including in cases of test failure, cancellation, no-show, or inability to complete the test.

Appointments may be rescheduled without a fee when the request is made more than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.

Requests made within 24 hours may be subject to a $35 rescheduling/cancellation fee.

All rescheduling requests must be confirmed by A & M Driver Testing staff.

A 10-minute grace period is provided.

Applicants arriving more than 10 minutes late may lose their appointment and all fees paid.

Applicants who fail to appear for their scheduled appointment will forfeit all fees paid and must pay the full testing fee again to schedule another appointment.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the official Michigan Driving Skills Test Study Guide before their appointment.

Michigan Driving Skills Test Study Guide

Applicants under 18 must meet Michigan’s eligibility requirements before taking the road skills test.

Applicants should bring:

• Valid Level 1 Learner’s License 
• Segment 2 Certificate of Completion 
• Completed Driving Log 
• Required Photo Identification 
• Parent or Legal Guardian 

Applicants must also have completed the required supervised driving hours and held their Level 1 Learner’s License for the required period before testing.

Adult applicants must have a valid Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) and satisfy Michigan’s required waiting period unless an official waiver has been issued by the Secretary of State.

Adult applicants should bring:

• Valid Temporary Instruction Permit 
• Required Photo Identification 

Only authorized individuals may be inside the vehicle during the road test.

If you are using your own vehicle, you must provide:

• Current Proof of Insurance 
• Current Vehicle Registration 

Your vehicle must be safe, legal, and in proper operating condition.

Required equipment includes properly functioning:

• Brakes 
• Brake Lights, including the center brake light 
• Horn 
• Turn Signals 
• Speedometer 
• Seat Belts 
• Rearview Mirror 
• Driver-Side Exterior Mirror 
• Doors 
• Windshield with no damage obstructing the driver’s view 

All vehicles are inspected before testing.

If your vehicle does not pass inspection, you may rent an A & M Driver Testing vehicle for $60, if one is available and the rental can be completed within your appointment time or grace period.

Common issues include:

• Missing or expired insurance 
• Missing or expired vehicle registration 
• Missing required identification or permits 
• Non-working brake lights 
• Non-working turn signals 
• Non-working horn 
• Unsafe vehicle condition 
• Windshield damage that obstructs the driver’s view 

Please check your documents and vehicle before arriving to help avoid delays, additional fees, or loss of your appointment.

Standby testing may be available when another scheduled applicant cancels or fails to appear.

Standby testing is not guaranteed.

By scheduling an appointment or submitting payment, the applicant acknowledges and agrees to A & M Driver Testing’s testing fees, rental fees, cancellation, rescheduling, refund, late-arrival, no-show, and vehicle policies.
